		<description>Hi Nick,

I feel your pain. I like to also keep my explorer windows small, and also prefer list view which is how I came across this defect. (This is a defect in list view functionality.)

You must have some pretty long descriptive file/folder names not to fit in a 4&quot; wide window. :-)

I didn&#039;t intend to trivialize this problem. It is a defect, but not many customers (other than you and I) have reported this problem, and fortunately it does not require jumping through a bunch of hoops to recover.

I am glad they are planning to address it in Windows 7. Until then, our F5 keys will be getting a pretty good workout. :-)

<description>this bug is not just a nuisnance; It is a royal pain !

I shrink all my explorer windows to 300 x 300. And I use LIST view. This keeps my desktop compact. BUT, it means that ALL folders have file names that exceed the window width. Thus, if I click into a subfolder, and then go back up one level, my files disappear from view. I then have to repat View -&gt; list.

Of note, SMALL ICONS don&#039;t do this, but they are sorted horizontally (nuts...)

anyway

<description>So did you send a bug to the Windows team &lt;g&gt;?

Hi John,

No, I didn&#039;t send a bug to the Windows team, but someone else did and it appears they are looking at it for Windows 7.

This is a bug in list view; and it is also a classic boundary bug. Once the label box length for the filename (the box around the file name that you can see when you right click a file to rename) exceeds the width of the list pane by 1 pixel the list view window repaints itself so the left side of longest filename is aligned with the right side of the list pane.
